PATRIOT is another font HOT off the desk of Jim O'Bryan, at Aartvark Design Studios, a subsidiary of Graphic Solutions, in Cleveland, Ohio.
This font is dedicated to the men and women who served, or helped in the recent Gulf Crisis. It is also dedicated to all Americans, no matter what they feel about the Gulf War. At least we live in a place where we can dissent, and get it on the evening news.
This is also for the everyone we sent to Washington, at least they held together for this one.
Let’s hope we never have to see our soldiers, or anyone’s soldiers go to war again.
Well, enough of that stuff.
I got the idea for this font, when I received a letter from C.Brandon Gresham Jr., from Riyad, Saudi Arabia on 3/15/91. He was at an Air Force base over there using our font "Slabface"™ in his day to day Mac’ing. He wanted us to send out our catalog of Fonts, borders, clip art, sounds, and templates.Well I was so honored that someone in the military theater was using a Aartvark Design Studios, product!
Later in the day I was talking to one of our printers (Steve Davis, from Sherman and Sons Lithography, also in Cleveland) about the letter and he said it is a shame you couldn't do something special for those men and women serving over there. A couple minutes later Patriot was born.
After 100 Hours I had a complete font on my Mac. A time limit set by myself to Steve.You know in keeping with the spirit of the project. I guess you could call this the 100 hour font! Also thanks to my wife Debra, who cleaned up a couple of the letters.
PATRIOT is based on the missiles used during Desert Strom, including the Patriot, Hellfire 1, Hellfire 2, Tow, Seasparrow, I/Hawk, and Harpoon. It is a display face with Upper Case, and Small Caps for the Lower Case, Numerals are also included.
It is extremely legible, at all type sizes, but looks best above 48 points.
